The Bhat Research Group!
We are thrilled to launch our new blog, a platform to share our research endeavors and connect with the scientific community! The Bhat Research Group at Columbia College, SC, is a diverse team of passionate undergraduate researchers driven by a common pursuit: advancing scientific knowledge through the power of computational chemistry and biomolecular modeling. Our research encompasses two main areas:
1. Designing the future, one molecule at a time:
- Organic functional materials: We utilize computational tools to design and discover novel organic materials with desired properties for various applications. These materials can be used in electronics, sensors, sustainable energy solutions, and even drug delivery systems.
- Exploration of physical organic chemistry: We delve into the fascinating world of organic molecules, analyzing their structure, reactivity, and electronic behavior. This knowledge provides the foundation for designing and understanding functional materials.
2. Unlocking the secrets of life, one biomolecule at a time:
- Biomolecular modeling: We employ computational methods to simulate the structure and dynamics of biomolecules, such as proteins, DNA, and enzymes. This allows us to gain insights into crucial biological processes like protein folding, enzyme catalysis, and drug-target interactions.
- Biomedical research applications: We focus on applying our biomolecular modeling expertise to address challenges in drug discovery, disease diagnosis, and development of new therapeutic strategies.
The heart of our group: Collaboration and discovery
At the Bhat Research Group, we believe that collaboration and inclusivity are key to scientific advancement. We foster a supportive and nurturing environment where undergraduate researchers play a vital role in both our organic materials and biomolecular modeling projects. By providing mentorship and guidance, we equip our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become future leaders in computational chemistry and related fields.
Stay tuned for more!
This blog marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we share our research experiences, scientific discoveries, and the day-to-day adventures of being a part of the Bhat Research Group. In the upcoming posts, we will delve deeper into specific projects, explore the exciting applications of computational methods in both organic materials and biomedical research, and share our experiences of undergraduate research.
We welcome you to join us on this exploration!
